Subcutaneous Sacrococcygeal Myxopapillary Ependymoma in Asian Female:A Case Report

چکیده
UNLABELLED Subcutaneous sacrococcygeal myxopapillary ependymoma is extremely rare tumor that has a tendency to develop in children and adolescents. There have been several case reports and sporadic reports in the literature. However, no case has been reported in an Asian patient, to the best of our knowledge. We describe a 25-year-old Asian female patient with a subcutaneous sacrococcygeal myxopapillary ependymoma that had been clinically diagnosed as a pilonidal cyst. The tumor was treated successfully by surgical excision and the patient is doing well without evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis at 2 years after surgery. KEYWORDS Myxopapillary ependymoma; Subcutaneous; Sacrococcygeal.

Subcutaneous sacrococcygeal myxopapillary ependymoma.
We report a case of myxopapillary ependymoma presenting as a primary tumor of the subcutaneous tissue in the sacrococcygeal region. The mass was large, well-encapsulated, lobulated, and multiseptated, with varying signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted MR images caused by hemorrhagic necrosis, blood degradation products, and calcification. Only a small viable portion enhanced after administrat...
متن کاملMyxopapillary ependymoma with pleuropulmonary metastases and high plasma glial fibrillary acidic protein levels.
Introduction Myxopapillary ependymoma is a rare glial tumor with almost exclusive localization in the distal spinal cord (intraspinal variant) or the sacrococcygeal subcutaneous tissue (extraspinal variant). The average age at manifestation has been reported to be approximately 36 years. The overall incidence is approximately 0.08 per 100,000 persons per year for males and 0.05 per 100,000 pers...
متن کاملUterine Cervix Metastasis of Myxopapillary Ependymoma Originated from the Spinal Cord.
BACKGROUND Myxopapillary ependymomas are well differentiated low-grade tumors which have been documented to local or distant metastasis. In the literature, this is a unique case of myxopapillary ependymoma with metastasis to the uterine cervix. Here, we present a rare case of extra neural metastasis of spinal ependymoma that developed over a long period. CASE REPORT A 34-year-old woman was re...
متن کاملExtradural sacrococcygeal subcutaneous ependymoma misdiagnosed as pilonidal disease: case report and review of the literature
Ependymoma is a type of glial tumor that arises from the ependymal lining of the ventricular system of the central nervous system. These tumors may present as a rare extraspinal variety at the sacrococcygeal region, and may be misdiagnosed as pilonidal disease in the post-sacral area or present with mass-effect symptoms on the bowel or bladder in the pre-sacral region. This is a case of soft ti...
متن کاملMyxopapillary Ependymoma of the Cauda Equina in a 5-Year-Old Boy
Myxopapillary ependymoma in childhood typically occurs in the central nervous system. There are few surgical cases of myxopapillary ependymoma of the cauda equina in children. We report a case of myxopapillary ependymoma of the cauda equina in a 5-year-old boy, who presented with leg pain and abnormal gait. Subtotal resection surgery was performed. Following the subtotal tumor resection, follow...
